3 Years

Happy birthday to me. My Sisterlocks (TM) are now 3 years old. Picture below are week old curls made by spritzing and braiding at night. You can really see the length here.

My sides are getting in the way now and have been getting caught up in my hand bag strap, when I am eating and working at my desk or computer so I have broken a few locks at my hair line, (pics to follow) without realising it. Now when driving I tie my hair out of the way of the seat belt and when eating or working at my desk.
Diamante pins support the front roll.
I find that I am braiding my hair less and tending to wear it down more.

Just thought I would put in a pic of my favourite style which is me wearing curls.
My challenges this year have been not knowing how to care for my hair during adverse weather conditions. This is the worst winter that England has had for over 100 years so no one was prepared and apparently there is more snow to come GROAN...
I am a sun worshiper and so are my locks...
I have learnt never to go out with wet hair otherwise this can cause mildew and breakage.
To increase my moisturizer to daily spritzing.
Always go out wearing a hat even if this is to go to and from my car as this protects my locks from the harsh winter wind which can do as much damage as cold rain and snow.
My Goals:
I want to do more styles with my hair. I noticed that when my hair was shorter I made more of an effort.
To increase my retightening regime to 6 instead of 8 weekly as my hair seems to be going through a growth spurt.
To be better at doing monthly deep conditioning as I have become busy these have been neglected.
Finally to have healthy, long hair...
Hope you enjoyed these.

Snowed in

This is the view of my drive this morning on my second day of being snowed in.

Anyone who lives in England knows that we have a history of being unable to cope with any type of weather conditions. Whether this is the wrong type of leaves, too much rain causing mass flooding or now too much snow.

We are apparently making history for being below temperatures and having such heavy and early snow.

People have been stranded in their cars on the roads for hours and even days.

Airports are closed.

There are no trains running.

Busses are very scarce.

Roads and pavements have not been gritted or sanded.

You may just be able to make out the top of my car. The picture below was yesterday morning, it continued to snow all night and day results above.

What have I done in these 2 days?

I have actually been working via the wonderful Blackberry! boo hoo don't cry!

also done all my washing, all my ironing, lots of cooking.

Lots of phone calls.

Now thinking of stripping some wall paper in the spare bedroom .......lol

I am hoping that I may be able to get out some time soooooooooooooon

35 months

Hi there this is my cheeky schoolgirl look freshly tightened.
I continue to prefer my hair to look wavy.
This is my work look.

My hair needs to be coloured here.

I cant believe that it is soon to be 3 years since the birth of my sisterlocks (TM).
Are they real? yes
Is each and every one of them different? yes just as every hair on my head is different.
And I still love them all the same.
Enjoy

Client Sunshine

I am still enjoying bringing Sunshine to others.
Sunshine's hair was freshly tightened and flat twist were added to the front.
Hope you like this.

Client, Flower

I am maintaining this client, whom I shall call "Flower".
After years of relaxing she went for the big chop then allowed her hair to grow for her installation. I lightly spritzed and made 2 strands twist which I tucked under.
She loved them so much that this is how she went home. These pictures were taken 8 weeks after her installation.
My next post will be in December , when I shall be celebrating my 3 year anniversary.
Until then.

32 months

At 32 months I am still finding new ways to style me hair. I lightly spritzed with spring water and braided in large braids and kept them in over night. Took them out and made 4 small flat twists to the side which I secured with my locks and put a diamante flower in the front. This style took all of 10 minutes most of which I spent admiring the finished look. I put this picture in to show you the size of braids and as you can see my roots need to be coloured. I make large braids for a looser look and for a smaller curl, which will last longer I make smaller braids. As usual I left 2 locks out by mistake.
This is me after colouring, washing and conditioning so my hair is straight.
I have stopped using the small black rubber bands to secure the ends of my braids as I found they were damaging my ends so I either tuck without bands or use a softer version which is for children and they are purple of course. I shall show you them next time.
That's it for now.

Client "Butterfly"

Hi there it has been 3 months since I last posted and as you can see I have been busy. I installed this ladies hair. I shall call her Butterfly. Below is a before picture showing the front of her hair, which was quite dense.
Before back view.
Butterfly transistioned over a period of 9 months but there was still some relaxer in her hair.

This final result and I am reliably informed that I installed 565 beauties in her hair.

Front view.
This is her first retightening 4 weeks later and her hair is already changing. I spritzed lightly with spring water, then braided in large braids which were tucked in. Wow her hair had some bounce!
I shall keep you all updated with Butterfly's progress.
I hope you enjoy these pictures.

Ascot

Hi to you all and thank you all for your comments. I thought I would post these pictures of me at the races last week. I went to Ascot with 18 other Nubian queens. I shampooed and conditioned my hair and braided in large, loose single braids which were left in overnight.
I then loosely took them out and here are the results.
As you know the one drink that I can not resist is Champagne and with my Daughter doing the honours of driving and collecting myself and a friend from the station, I just had to indulge. This drink is semi sweet and has a kick when the air hits you. Or that's what I am telling myself anyway. My daughter kept telling me I was "lean" !
My hair needs a colour and a retightening here.

These pictures were taken in my back garden and before any Champs, I promise.
See you next time.

Sri Lanka and Hair?

I coloured my hair and the sun made it go bright orange?
Everywhere I went people stared at me. Initially I thought "What a rude set of people" then I remembered my hair. Having lived in my locks now for 28 months I am used to them but others are not. Sri lankan people love their hair. Women tend to wear it long and black. I never saw anyone with coloured hair and this is what was drawing people to me. I was asked how I washed and conditioned my hair and told that I had hair like Bob Marley.

One day I was lounging on the beach to find a young man stroking my hair. Yes I did say stroking and did I say I liked it? well he was young.........and handsome......

I cant believe just how bright my hair went. This is something to remember for future holidays.

This is me enjoying a cocktail the night before coming home.
These are a few samples of my holiday pics. I hope you like them. Sri Lanka is a beautiful and unspoilt destination whose people are very welcoming and there are lots of historical sights to see.

Sri Lanka Part 2

This is Sri lanka holiday part 2. I climbed the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. If you look closely you can see the metal stairs. This was no joke as it was in the blazing sun and there was a lot of wind. It was quite scary!

There used to be over 500 fresco's near the top of the Fortress but due to weather and graffiti there are only 21 left now. The colours looked very vivid and reminded me of the paintings in the Egyptian tombs.

In Kandy there was a cultural show. Below is the mask dance and the snake dance. Some dances are still used today as a treatment in Psychiatry.

During the show this man went into a trance and ate fire and danced on hot coals.

Finally me with 2 porcupines.

Sri Lanka Holiday

Sri Lanka Holiday Part 1

Hi all I was due to go for a 2 week holiday to Thailand from 7th May to 22nd May only to hear a few days before that the holiday was cancelled due to problems with the "red shirts" see http://www.guardian.co.uk/world2010/apr/20thailand-red-shirts-wage-war Then my tour company offered me a 5 star Hotel on the beach in Sri Lanka. Of course I said yes because after planning for nearly a year I was not going to do without my holiday.

Sri Lanka is an island off the south eastern shores of India, 880 km north of the equator, on the Indian ocean.

The religion is primarily Buddhism 70%, Hinduism 16%, Christianity 7%, Islam 7%.

The major industries are Gems, Jewelry, spices and Teas.

It is approximately 10 hours flight from London Heathrow on Sri Lankan airways. Now you all know that I am a frequent flyer and I have never liked plane food but this food was the best I have tasted on any airway so far. Staff were attentive and professional with unlimited alcohol, 30kg baggage allowance and you know us girls love to take our bedroom with us on holiday.

I stayed at the 5 star Heritance Ahungalla Hotel see here: http://www.heritancehotels.com/ahungalla This Hotel has so many facilities such as a gym, sauna and spa, disco, a number of bars and restaurants. The only issue is that it is 3 hours drive from the international airport but even this would not stop me from going there again.

It is stunning on a clean beach. Staff were very friendly and could not do too much. The Hotel management took customer service very seriously. This was my room, It overlooked one of two pools and was in view of the sea.

View from the room,

I went on a 3 day trip to kandy the main City in Sri lanka and visited an elephant orphanage. This is a baby elephant.

It was 32 degrees and monsoon season but I only had 3 days of rain during my 14 days. This is me on the beach.

Inside a temple. On entering any temple you must walk bare feet and women must cover their arms and legs. You are permitted to take photographs with some Buddhas but must never turn your back on a Buddha as this is seen as disrespectful. I noticed that on many street corners and in every town there are many Buddha statues and that these are very well kept. Me with a friend at the Elephant orphanage.

These ruins still had some original plaster inside.

Everywhere was decorated with carvings of animals especially Elephants.

This was also an impressive structure.

I found this picture hiding behind a pillar at the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy and I had to photograph it because I thought it was so beautiful.
This is the Golden Temple in Kandy. This was very very impressive.

This was made out of 1 whole piece of stone...

We were not allowed to pose in the picture with this statue.

I love stone and Sri Lanka certainly has some hidden treasures that I did not expect to find. Sri Lankans are very proud of their heritage.
